A fresh opportunity with a Georgia connection

On September 22, 2026, the U.S. Small Business Administration announced $8.9 million in Supply Chain Acceleration and Logistics Enablement (SCALE) grants to 18 organizations in 17 states. Georgia is on that list: Georgia Tech Research Corporation received an award focused on the energy sector. The grantees will receive up to $500,000 each over a two-year period beginning September 30 to help small manufacturers address supply-chain constraints, expand production, and participate in strategically important supply chains.

What SCALE is designed to provide

According to SBA, funded organizations will deliver technical assistance, accelerator programming, supplier matchmaking, and industry engagement. Priority areas include advanced manufacturing, biotechnology and biomanufacturing, defense technologies, energy and critical materials, food and agriculture, and transportation and logistics. This is not the same as saying every small manufacturer receives a direct grant. The near-term opportunity is access to programs, networks, technical support, and potential buyer/supplier pathways built by the funded organizations.

Why Atlanta-area companies should prepare before the doors open

When supplier matchmaking or accelerator opportunities appear, the businesses that move fastest usually already know what they make, how much they can produce, which quality standards they meet, where their bottlenecks are, and what capacity they could add with new demand or financing. Waiting until an application opens to build those basics can waste the window.

Build a supplier-readiness packet now

Prepare a one-page capability statement, NAICS codes, ownership and certification information, a concise description of products or production services, current capacity, equipment, quality controls, delivery geography, major customers or sectors served, and the specific kind of opportunity you want. If your business is not a manufacturer but supports manufacturers – logistics, specialized services, software, staffing, compliance, maintenance, marketing, or business operations – clarify that value chain role too.

Match operational readiness with capital readiness

SBA has also expanded manufacturing-focused financing tools, including a 90% Made in America loan guarantee for eligible manufacturers and other working-capital initiatives. Financing only helps if the business knows what the capital is for. Tie any financing plan to a measurable production constraint: equipment, inventory, working capital, workforce, facility capacity, supplier diversification, or customer acquisition. That turns “I need money” into an investable operating plan.

Watch the Georgia rollout – and keep expectations precise

The September 22 announcement identifies Georgia Tech Research Corporation as the Georgia SCALE grantee and says the award period begins September 30. It does not yet provide every operational detail for how Georgia businesses will access programming. The right move is to monitor Georgia Tech and SBA announcements, prepare your materials, and avoid assuming eligibility or guaranteed funding until program-specific criteria are published.
